Is white the only "real color" and all other colors are perceived by the eye from white reflecting off things?
in other words, the sun emits a white, or colorless light, and it reflects off different things so that is how our eyes perceive color. And the different colors come from different wavelengths. You can't even "see" colors if light were not emitted.
I was talking to friends and always thought that white is the ONLY color and that our eyes are just "perceiving" these reflections as colors. I mean think of the color spectrum. Every color together makes white. So it must be the only "real" color. If you take a flash light with a red bulb and shine it through a red filter then you get white.
Please tell me what you think scientifically. Websites would be great.

I saw a demonstration once.
A round disc was divided into sections like you might cut a pie.
Each section had one of the basic colors, red, blue, yellow, green, black. There might have been another but I can't remember.
The disc was attached to a motor that made it spin.
As the disc went faster and faster the colors began to blend and finally when fast enough the only color the eye could detect was "white"
So, that proves that white is a blend of all the colors in the normal spectrum. Seems odd when you think about all the colors being darker than the white.
Actually, consider a prism that splits light into its colors so you can shine them on a wall. That proves that the "white" light from the sun has all the colors in it.
You mention wavelengths. It is good you know about that. Consider a blue bird. Scientists have discovered there is no blue pigment in the bluebirds feathers. Pigment such as we add to paint to change the color. Nope, we see "blue" because the feathers only reflect light in the blue wavelength.
If our eyes and brains were not able to distinguish the difference in wavelengths, all colors would appear to be shades of black and white. A bit like watching a black and white movie.
