Don't these type of moderated debates just let candidates spout out memorized answers?
Aren't town hall type debates much better? The people asking the questions are less likely to be predictable.
Also, it's harder for candidates to prep for these.
Town hall debates have been no better. The questions are usually screened and the debaters still don't answer the questions. A debate with a more aggressive moderator would be good, but the moderators are afraid they'll be accused of being biased so they don't push it. (the moderator last night was preemptively accused of bias!)
